The territory of Montefalco reinvents itself and tells us a new story, which goes beyond the widely- known Sagrantino. The long-awaited appointment of the Sagrantino Preview, in fact, this year is replaced by “A MONTEFALCO", an experience that combines tradition with a broader and more articulated journey into the world of Umbrian wines.
In this context, Còlpetrone, one of the most important wineries in the Montefalco area, will participate to this significant event – which takes place on June 17th and 18th – where journalists and wine professionals only will have the opportunity to taste with some of its specialties.
Montefalco, not solely known for Sagrantino
Montefalco is therefore a “land for wine", which wants to tell its story to the world in a new guise. It is no longer just the “Sagrantino Preview", but a moment in which previews of the vintages already ready for the market are also presented, in a journey that extends vertically – following the evolution of the vintages – and horizontally – embracing the entire wine wealth of Montefalco.
The program of “A MONTEFALCO" – which can be visited on the official website of the event – includes technical tastings, masterclasses and meetings with producers, for a complete immersion in this area dedicated to wine production. There will also be moments dedicated to the discovery of the peculiarities of Sagrantino and other local wine excellences, making the event a unique opportunity to deepen one's knowledge of the Umbrian wine scene.
The red (and 'green') heart of Còlpetrone
Tenute del Cerro will also take part to this event with Còlpetrone winery, a true-to-life gem perched among the rolling hills of Montefalco. With about 63 hectares of vineyards, the Umbrian winery of Tenute del Cerro is dedicated to the cultivation of the most widely known and awarded native varieties, such as the renowned Sagrantino - one of the oldest vines existing in the Italian territory, distinguished by a bright and deep ruby color - and the Grechetto, together with Sangiovese and Merlot.
Here, the underlying passion for wine is intertwined with a careful commitment to environmental sustainability, making this winery a real example of how past, present and future can and should coexist. Its production reflects not only a modern enological vision, for example with the adoption of breeding systems with yields of 60 quintals per hectare, well below the 80 quintals required by the specification, but also a deep awareness of the millenary and deep-rooted link between Montefalco and the wine tradition.
Each sip of its wines, intense and complex, tells a story that embraces generations of farmers, experts and enthusiasts, making Còlpetrone an impeccable ambassador of Tenute del Cerro in Umbria.
An invitation to discover the lush wine variety of Montefalco
The production of Còlpetrone stands out for its high quality and includes iconic wines such as Montefalco Sagrantino Docg, both in dry (Memoira) and passito (sweet wine) versions, alongside the prestigious "Gold" selection - fruit of the most recent studies of the company staff - with labels such as Sacer and Ò di Colpetrone.
Together with Sagrantino, considered as the "prince of the territory", the winery offers wines such as Montefalco Rosso Doc, Saccr Umbria Rosso IGT and Grechetto Umbria IGT, gathering a range of wines designed to best represent this area.
"A MONTEFALCO" is therefore much more than a simple event: it is a call to immerse yourself in a unique territory, unfolding the nuances of an historical wine such as Sagrantino, but also designed to amaze people by bringing up the variety and quality of other local products.
