The philosophy

History and values

The expression of an authentic Italian emotion and the absolute quality of the wines are granted by the constant commitment of the winemaking and agronomists team and the precious advices of the famous wine maker Riccardo Cotarella. We invest in indigenous varietal and in biodiversity, we take care and mantain our forests and we enjoy to welcome wine lovers and guests, in our historical homes, who want to live and breathe the aromas and flavours of our wines and cuisine. Tenute del Cerro is also part of the WRT, Wine Research Team, a network of 35 wineries that share scientific know-how and carry on innovative experiments in the vineyard and in the cellar.

Our history

Founded in 1978, Tenute del Cerro started with the first acquisitions of Montecorona in Umbertide and Fattoria del Cerro in Acquaviva di Montepulciano and subsequently expanded acquiring La Poderina in Montalcino, Còlpetrone in Gualdo Cattaneo and Monterufoli in Monteverdi Marittimo. The properties are actually owned by Unipol Group. Almost forty years of wine history. Each estate boasts a glorious past, starting from Montecorona, that has a thousand years of history with the Camaldolian Abbey and it was a former property in the 40s of the tenor Beniamino Gigli. Villa Grazianella in Montepulciano surrounded by 600 hectares of wonderful land, used as summer house by the arcibishop of Montepulciano, finally getting to Monterufoli nestled in the middle of thousand hectares of pristine forest which was an old coal mining station.
