  • 07/10/2022

Each glass of wine tells a story. And the one told by a glass of "Ò di Còlpetrone" Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG 2016 is different from all the others and is made of fascination and authentic emotion. A story that began years ago, the result of a long and careful work to enhance the territory and its native vines. Because Còlpetrone lives on a unique grape, Sagrantino, and today we tell you about the new label of the Estate that was created to share with everyone the wonder you feel in tasting it.

Enhancement of the territory and of a single grape, Sagrantino

To tell you the story of this wine we must take a step back, and go back to when Còlpetrone - today one of the most important producers of the Montefalco DOCG area - was a small company. Founded in the 1990s, the company's will was to create a house worthy of the very high quality of the native vines of that specific area, Sagrantino.

Over the years, this desire has coincided with the desire to deepen more and more the knowledge that was considered already acquired not only of the territory but of this special grape and all its potential, identifying particular plots for a mix of pedoclimatic characteristics and intrinsic to the grape itself, of "superior" quality.

And this is how the oenological staff of the Tenuta di Còlpetrone led to the "discovery" of a land located in San Marco, one of the historic hills of Montefalco and which is thought to be the cradle of Sagrantino. What emerged was a total fascination with tasting this specific batch of wine, for the first time vinified separately. From here starts the challenge of “Ò di Còlpetrone" Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG 2016.

Ò by Còlpetrone: the sensory journey

100% pure Sagrantino, "Ò di Còlpetrone" Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG was born from the 2016 vintage, which stood out for its undeniable above-average quality. But how does it differ, for example, from other wines such as Sagrantino Memoira or Sacer

The aging and vinification protocol is the same as for the other wines. The peculiarity of the new born therefore does not lie in a different cellar technique or in the use of refining techniques different from the standardized ones, but in the enhancement of the intrinsic characteristics of this grape. Maceration takes place in stainless steel tank, and once finished the wine is transferred in French oak barrels for 12 months and finally bottled. It will then take another six months of bottle refinement before being put on the market.

The result is an intense ruby red wine with garnet reflections, which transmits pleasant and non-aggressive notes to the palate. From the tasting, what emerges is not the muscle but the emotion, which is expressed in an incredible length and persistence in the mouth. In evidence, spicy notes of flowers and violets in particular and of red fruits in jam that make it a complex and rich product, different from all the others.

Ò as "wonder"

To be such a selection must be different, transferring unique characteristics to the glass compared to those of another wine. And this is what happens with "Ò di Còlpetrone" Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG which already expresses this preciousness and uniqueness in the labeling in shades of gold. The Ò, therefore, is both to recall in the lettering the origin and the link with the territory and the Estate, but also and above all to share the amazement and fascination that the winemaking staff felt at the first taste. In the nose and mouth this new wine wants to transfer the emotion that Sagrantino can give and that Còlpetrone can tell in its facets, thanks to a careful and passionate study of a vineyard that has a very ancient history and whose full potential is not yet known.

A wine that, among its ruby reflections, contains all the essence and beauty of the Umbrian territory and that will continue to surprise you.
