Preview Sagrantino 2023: the wines of Tenute del Cerro

Two days to talk about the best that the Montefalco area has to offer in terms of wine, in particular all the nuances of Montefalco Sagrantino Docg. From tastings to events in the cellar, but always with an eye to the future: the objective of this event is in fact, in addition to evaluating the 2019 Montefalco Sagrantino Docg vintage, to investigate the evolutionary potential of this peculiar and extraordinarily long-lived wine, so important for the area, in a sector that is rapidly changing face.

An occasion of great value, in which Tenute del Cerro takes part with a selection of its wines.

  • Ò di Còlpetrone 2017: a "new born" which, in the nose and mouth, wants to transfer all the emotion and wonder that this unique grape can give, as we told you in a dedicated study. The result is a powerful and well-structured wine, with a characteristic intense ruby red with garnet reflections and aromas of spicy notes and evident red fruit jam. Such a precious and complex label requires to be accompanied by equally rich and elaborate dishes, roasted red meats and aged cheeses.

  • Sagrantino Passito 2016: Sagrantino grapes lend themselves very well to the drying process, keeping their sugar component intact. In fact, this wine is full, sweet, with a slight initial tannic sensation and excellent persistence. Being a sweet wine, it is perfect to end meals and pair desserts or dried fruit.

  • Montefalco Rosso 2020: considered – wrongly – the younger brother of Sagrantino, in reality it is a wine capable of giving great emotions. It has a characteristic ruby red color and a delicate aroma, which makes it easy to drink. But it is in the mouth that it shows its potential: full and round flavour, pleasantly dry with fruity notes, which lighten an important but not aggressive structure. In short, a wine that goes well with savory and moderately spiced first courses and grilled meats.

There are many innovations planned, starting with an expansion of the wines for tasting: in addition to the great reds such as Montefalco Sagrantino Docg dry and passito, Montefalco Rosso Doc, Montefalco Rosso Doc Riserva, white wines will also be offered such as Montefalco Bianco Doc, Montefalco Grechetto Doc, Spoleto Trebbiano Spoletino Doc. This is to offer a more complete overview of the wines produced in this peculiar territory. Finally, don't miss the national competition Gran Premio del Sagrantino promoted by the Italian Sommelier Association: an experience in which professional sommeliers from all over Italy will be seen at work with tastings, pairings, wine lists and everything related to more effective communication of a unique product in the world such as Sagrantino in the restaurant sector.
