Còlpetrone

The Soul of the Estate

Heritage

Còlpetrone is the largest private estate producing Sagrantino. This achievement was reached thanks to a specific field choice and a farsighted strategic vision. At the end of the 1980s, the estate chose to invest in this territory and its wines, when very few producers had yet realized its great potential. Còlpetrone understood this potential early on, setting new quality standards that were immediately recognized by specialized press and consumers alike.

The first vintages of Sagrantino and Montefalco Rosso were produced in what is now called ‘Old Còlpetrone,’ an ancient farmhouse a few kilometers from the current headquarters. The immediate and significant recognitions obtained from the first harvests of Sagrantino convinced the ownership to invest increasingly in the territory with progressive acquisitions both in the municipality of Gualdo Cattaneo and in the municipality of Montefalco. With the construction of the new winery, inaugurated in 2005, the goal of a structure designed in harmony with the territory was realized; the vinification and aging area is integrated within the hillside to ensure constant temperature and humidity conditions and minimal environmental impact. Today, it is a company with 63 hectares of vineyard, of which 35 are dedicated to the production of four types of Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG: ‘Memoira,’ ‘Sacer,’ ‘Ò di Còlpetrone,’ and finally Montefalco Sagrantino Passito DOCG. The estate also produces Montefalco Rosso DOC and Grechetto IGT.
